Clifford and Peggy decide they will have to sell their herd to pay the rent. A celebratory dinner is held for Dolly's birthday at Emmerdale Farm.

Robin Parr comes to the village. He is a friend of Alan. Robin says he was almost attacked by a surly dark haired farmer just now when there was a near accident. Alan realises this is Jack Sugden. Alan says there was a tragedy recently hence why Jack is a bit tense.
